Zone: 3WINEBERRY DELIGHT STONECROP
Sedum 'Wineberry Delight' is a striking upright stonecrop valued for its seasonal color shift and strong late-summer performance. The foliage emerges blue-green in spring, forming a sturdy, upright clump of fleshy leaves. As the season progresses and light intensity increases, the foliage gradually deepens into a rich wine-purple tone, especially in full sun and leaner soils, giving the plant its signature 'wineberry' appearance. In late summer to early fall, it produces large, domed clusters of deep pink to rosy red flowers that stand out vividly against the darkening foliage, creating a bold, high-impact display in the garden. The blooms are also highly attractive to pollinators, particularly bees and butterflies.
'Wineberry Delight' performs best in full sun and sharply drained soil, where its color development and sturdy growth are most pronounced. Once established, it is highly drought tolerant and thrives in dry, low-fertility conditions, making it an excellent choice for gravel gardens, sunny borders, and xeriscapes. Avoid overly rich or wet soils, which can cause floppiness and reduce the intensity of the foliage color. Its strong upright habit pairs well with ornamental grasses and other sun-loving perennials, and the dried flower heads often persist into winter, adding structure and seasonal interest long after peak bloom.
