Sedum SunSparkler® 'Plum Dazzled' is a high-impact groundcover that brings a dark, velvety drama to the garden with its exceptionally deep foliage color. It is prized for its succulent, rounded leaves in a rich shade of smoky plum-purple that emerges in early spring and intensifies in the summer sun. Growing to a tidy, mounded height of only 6 to 9 inches with a spread of 15 to 18 inches, it forms a dense, weed-suppressing mat that maintains its dark coloration without fading or scorching in the heat.
In late summer and early autumn, 'Plum Dazzled' is transformed by massive, 6 to 8 inch flower clusters in a brilliant cherry-pink. These giant blooms are significantly larger than those of typical groundcover varieties, creating a stunning neon contrast against the dark plum foliage. The nectar-rich flowers are a powerful magnet for butterflies and bees, providing a critical late-season food source.
For the most intense purple foliage and the most prolific blooming, plant 'Plum Dazzled' in a location that receives full sun. It is a rugged and drought-tolerant selection that thrives in average to poor, well-drained soil; avoiding over-fertilization is key to maintaining its tight, mounded form. In the landscape, it is an ideal choice for the front of a sunny border, as a high-contrast filler in rock gardens, or as a dark, dramatic "spiller" in mixed containers.
