VOODOO STONECROP
Sedum spurium 'Voodoo' is a high-intensity stonecrop groundcover that brings a dark, dramatic flair to the sunny garden. It is prized for its exceptionally deep, mahogany-red foliage that remains rich and vibrant from spring through the heat of summer. Growing only 3 to 6 inches tall, it forms a dense, succulent mat of rounded, scalloped leaves that serve as a bold, weed-suppressing backdrop for other perennials. In mid-summer, the dark foliage is topped with a profusion of star-shaped, glowing rose-red flowers that create a stunning neon contrast against the mahogany leaves.
For the most intense foliage color and strongest growth, plant Sedum 'Voodoo' in a location that receives full sun. It is remarkably hardy and drought-tolerant, thriving in average to poor, well-drained soil where other plants might struggle. As temperatures drop in the autumn and winter, the foliage often intensifies to an even deeper burgundy-bronze, providing excellent multi-season interest.
In the landscape, Sedum 'Voodoo' is an ideal choice for the front of a sunny border, as a high-contrast filler in rock gardens, or as a colorful "spiller" in mixed stone troughs. Maintenance is very simple - just clear away any winter debris in early spring to allow the rich, colorful new growth to emerge.
