JAPANESE UMBRELLA PINE
The Sciadopitys verticillata is commonly referred to as the Umbrella Pine. This rare and unusual species gets its common name from umbrella-like whorls of needles that grow at the ends of its branches. They container dark green, flattened needles that radiate outward resembling an open umbrella. It also features peeling reddish-orange bark that is quite attractive, but sometimes hidden by its foliage.
The slow-growing Umbrella Pine enjoys moist, rich, acidic, well-drained soils in full sun. Shelter from harsh winter winds would be beneficial.

To help this plant settle in and thrive, we recommend these standard planting practices: Water it regularly, but avoid overwatering. Provide a slightly acidic soil pH, around 6.0. Mulch around the base to retain moisture and suppress weeds. Prune it annually to maintain shape and promote healthy growth.
