PINK MIST PINK PINCUSHION FLOWER
Scabiosa columbaria 'Pink Mist' is a charming and prolific perennial prized for its soft, lacy texture and exceptionally long blooming season. Much like its counterpart 'Butterfly Blue', 'Pink Mist' produces a continuous supply of delicate, 2-inch wide pincushion flowers in a serene shade of pastel pink with tiny white stamens that resemble pins. Reaching a mature height of 24-30 inches, it forms a low, mounded tuft of grey-green, deeply lobed foliage. Its steady production of nectar-rich blooms from late spring until the first frost makes it a premier choice for attracting butterflies and bees to the front of a sunny border or a mixed perennial bed.
To ensure 'Pink Mist' remains a vibrant performer, it should be planted in a location that receives full sun and has excellent soil drainage. It is particularly sensitive to winter moisture, so ensuring the soil does not stay soggy during the colder months is key to its longevity. To maximize the flower display and keep the plant looking tidy, regular deadheading of spent blooms is highly recommended; this encourages it to focus its energy on producing new pink blossoms all season long. In early spring, simply clear away any old foliage to make room for fresh new growth.
