Zone: 2PUSSYWILLOW
The Salix discolor is the American native tree form of the Pussy Willow. It has smaller, gray, male catkins than its European and Asian cousin, Salix caprea. The Salix discolor is the hardiest of Pussy Willows. It is a large shrub or small tree that is most showy in spring due to its fuzzy catkins on shiny, bare branches.
Salix discolor thrives in full sun and moist, soggy soils. It is ideal along the edge of lakes, streams and other wetlands.
