Zone: 5TIGEREYE™ GOLD BLACKEYED SUSAN
Rudbeckia hirta Tiger Eye Gold™ is a standout semi-double cultivar known for its exceptional uniformity and intense color saturation. It produces an abundance of 3 to 4-inch wide blooms with bright, golden-yellow petals that surround a strikingly dark, nearly black central cone. Unlike many other hirta types, Tiger Eye Gold™ was specifically bred for improved resistance to powdery mildew, allowing its fuzzy, deep green foliage to remain clean and attractive throughout the peak of the summer. Reaching a mature height of 18 to 24 inches with a well-branched, mounded habit, it offers a professional, "filled-out" look that makes it a top-tier choice for mass landscape plantings and premium mixed containers.
To ensure the best floral display, Tiger Eye Gold™ should be planted in full sun with well-drained soil. It is remarkably heat-tolerant and thrives in the high light levels of mid-summer, though it performs best when provided with consistent moisture. The nectar-rich flowers are highly attractive to pollinators, providing a steady food source for butterflies and bees throughout the season.
The main difference between Rudbeckia fulgida and Rudbeckia hirta is in its flower size. The hirta cultivars have fewer, but larger flowers. Also, the Rudbeckia hirta stands more upright than the R. fulgida.
