TIGER SMILEYZ™ BLACKEYED SUSAN

Rudbeckia hirta Tiger Smileyz® is a striking and high-impact selection from the SmileyZ® series, bred specifically for its bold, bi-color contrast and exceptional branching. It features large, daisy-like blooms with bright, golden-yellow petals marked by a distinct, deep mahogany-red ring at the base, creating a "tiger-striped" effect around a dark chocolate central cone. Reaching a mature height of 18 to 24 inches, it maintains a tidy, upright habit that is more restrained and uniform than older R. hirta cultivars. Its prolific blooming season begins in early summer and carries through until the first frost, making it a reliable choice for adding dramatic vertical interest to premium patio planters and middle-of-the-border garden displays.

To ensure peak performance, Tiger Smileyz® should be situated in full sun, as it requires at least six to eight hours of direct light to maintain its sturdy stems and high flower count. It prefers moderately fertile, well-drained soil and, while it can tolerate heat and short dry spells, it performs best with consistent moisture, especially when used in container arrangements. Beyond its aesthetic value, its nectar-rich flowers are a magnet for pollinators, providing a late-season food source for bees and butterflies.

The main difference between Rudbeckia fulgida and Rudbeckia hirta is in its flower size. The hirta cultivars have fewer, but larger flowers.
