SMILEYZ™ GLOWING BLACKEYED SUSAN
Rudbeckia hirta 'Glowing Smileyz' is a vibrant and high-performing member of the SmileyZ® series, a collection specifically bred by Beekenkamp Plants for its uniform, well-branched habit and exceptional flower power. It features large, semi-double blooms with a striking bicolor effect; the petals are a deep, rusty-red at the base, transitioning to bright coppery-orange or golden tips that surround a dark, chocolate-brown central cone. Reaching a mature height of 24 to 30 inches with a similar spread, Glowing Smileyz® is noted for its "quick-turn" vigor, meaning it fills out pots and garden spaces rapidly with a profusion of flowers from early summer all the way through the first hard frost.
To maintain its "glowing" appearance, it should be sited in full sun, as direct light is essential for stem strength and maximum bloom production. It thrives in moderately fertile, well-drained soil and, while it can tolerate periods of drought once established, it performs best with consistent moisture, especially when grown in containers.
The main difference between Rudbeckia fulgida and Rudbeckia hirta is in its flower size. The hirta cultivars have fewer, but larger flowers. Also, the Rudbeckia hirta stands more upright than the R. fulgida.

To help this plant settle in and thrive, we recommend these standard planting practices: Plant in well-draining soil with a slightly alkaline pH. Water regularly, but avoid overwatering. Deadhead spent blooms to encourage more flowering. Prune back after flowering to maintain shape.
