AUTUMN COLORS BLACKEYED SUSAN
Rudbeckia hirta 'Autumn Colors' is a show-stopping cultivar of the traditional Black-Eyed Susan, prized for its exceptionally large, 5 to 6-inch blooms. Bred by Benary, this award-winning variety features a striking bicolored palette that mirrors the rich tones of fall, with petals ranging from golden-yellow and warm orange to deep bronze and mahogany-red. Each flower is anchored by a prominent, dark chocolate-brown central cone, creating a bold focal point that lasts from early summer until the first frost. Growing to a compact height of 18 to 24 inches, 'Autumn Colors' maintains a sturdy, upright habit and serves as a magnet for pollinators, particularly butterflies and bees, while providing long-lasting color as a cut flower.
Plant 'Autumn Colors' in a location that receives full sun and has well-drained soil. While it is adaptable to various soil types, including clay and sandy loam, it thrives in moderately fertile conditions where it has consistent moisture but never sits in waterlogged earth.
The main difference between Rudbeckia fulgida and Rudbeckia hirta is in its flower size. The hirta cultivars have fewer, but larger flowers. Also, the Rudbeckia hirta stands more upright than the R. fulgida.
