Zone: 5NEW DAWN™ CLIMBING ROSE
Rosa New Dawn™ is an iconic large-flowered climbing rose, famously recognized as the first plant ever to receive a patent in 1931. It is cherished for its romantic, shell-pink semi-double blooms that release a soft, fruity fragrance. Unlike many traditional climbers, it is a reliable repeat bloomer, offering a spectacular initial flush in late spring followed by steady waves of flowers through the first frost. Its vigorous canes can easily reach 12 feet, making it a classic choice for draping over arbors, pergolas, or sturdy fences.
In the landscape, Rosa New Dawn™ is prized for its "tough-as-nails" constitution and surprising tolerance for partial shade. The foliage is a lustrous, dark green with a high resistance to black spot, maintaining a clean look even in humid conditions. Because it produces thorns and grows with significant strength, it requires a solid support system and minimal pruning in its early years. It remains a gold standard for gardeners seeking a vigorous, disease-resistant climber that combines old-world elegance with modern reliability.

To help this plant settle in and thrive, we recommend these standard planting practices: Plant in a location with at least 6-8 hours of sunlight. Provide a sturdy trellis or support system immediately. Water deeply at the base. Prune in early spring. Remove any dead or damaged canes. The most important step for flowers is horizontal training: tie the main canes as horizontally as possible to your support structure - this forces the plant to send up vertical, flowering shoots along the entire length of the cane.
