TWISTY BABY® LOCUST

Robinia pseudoacacia 'Lace Lady', sold as Twisty Baby®, is a unique dwarf cultivar of the native black locust celebrated for its striking architectural form. Unlike the large, straight species, Twisty Baby® grows into a compact, multi-stemmed small tree or large shrub, typically reaching 15 feet in height and width. Its main appeal lies in its contorted branching pattern and distinctly curled, wavy pinnate leaflets that create a fine-textured canopy throughout the growing season. In spring, it occasionally produces fragrant, white, pea-like flowers, but its main draw is its unique zig-zagging stems.

Robinia Twisty Baby® thrives in full sun for best foliage density and structural habit. It is remarkably adaptable to various soils, including poor, sandy, or clay soils, provided they are well-draining, as it tolerates drought exceptionally well once established.

Planting Tips

To help this plant settle in and thrive, we recommend these standard planting practices: Plant it in a location with full sun and a well-draining soil mix. Water regularly but avoid overwatering. Mulch around the base to retain moisture and suppress weeds. Fertilize annually with a balanced, slow-release fertilizer.
