Zone: 5BLOOMBUX® BLUSH RHODODENDRON
The Rhododendron Bloombux® Blush is a highly adaptable evergreen shrub that has gained popularity as an excellent, disease-resistant alternative to traditional boxwood. It is a hybrid of Rhododendron hirsutum and Rhododendron micranthum and features a compact, dense, and rounded habit, typically reaching 2-3 feet in height and spread. It is known for its glossy, dark green foliage that provides year-round structure, perfectly mimicking the texture of boxwood, but with an added bonus: in late spring, it bursts into an abundance of soft, blush-pink, trumpet-shaped flowers. This combination of fine foliage, easy shaping, and spectacular flowering makes Bloombux® Blush an ideal choice for low hedges, formal edging, topiary forms, or attractive container plantings.
One of the key advantages of Bloombux® Blush over other rhododendrons is its versatility in soil type; while most rhododendrons demand acidic soil, this hybrid tolerates a wider pH range. For best results, plant it in rich, moist, and well-drained soil. It performs well in locations receiving full sun to partial shade; full sun encourages the best bloom development, but a little afternoon shade is beneficial in the hottest climates.

To help this plant settle in and thrive, we recommend these standard planting practices: Plant in rich, moist, acidic, and well-draining soil, selecting a location that provides partial shade or filtered light to protect the foliage from harsh, direct sun. These shallow-rooted shrubs require consistent moisture to remain healthy, especially during the first growing season until they are fully established. Prune immediately after the flowering period concludes, as new buds for the next year are set shortly after blossoms fade; removing spent blooms and light tip-pruning encourages a fuller, more vigorous habit. Apply a generous layer of organic mulch around the root zone to conserve moisture and regulate soil temperature, ensuring the material remains a few inches away from the crown to prevent stem rot.
