EASY AS PIE® BUSH CHERRY
Prunus Easy As Pie® is a versatile and compact bush cherry that bridges the gap between ornamental shrubbery and productive fruit plants. Part of the Proven Winners® ColorChoice® line, this hybrid variety is celebrated for its incredible ease of care, making the luxury of home-grown fruit accessible even for small-space gardeners. In mid-spring, Easy As Pie® is covered in a profusion of delicate white and pink-tinged blossoms that are a magnet for early pollinators. By mid-to-late summer, flowers transition into clusters of bright red, tart cherries that are perfect for baking, preserves, or canning. Its dwarf, upright habit reaches only about 3 to 4 feet in height and width, allowing it to fit perfectly into mixed borders, edible hedges, or even large patio containers.
For the best performance, Easy As Pie® Bush Cherry should be planted in a spot that receives full sun, which ensures maximum fruit production and the most vibrant foliage. While it is remarkably adaptable to various soil types, including heavier clay, it performs best in moist, well-drained conditions. It is exceptionally cold-hardy (down to Zone 3) and is prized for its high resistance to the typical diseases that often plague traditional cherry trees, effectively eliminating the need for chemical sprays. As the season ends, the medium-green foliage puts on a final show, turning brilliant shades of orange and yellow for high-impact fall interest.
