HEAVEN SCENT JACOBS LADDER

Polemonium 'Heaven Scent' is a Proven Winners® selection and a standout member of the Heavenly Habit® series. It is particularly prized for its multi-seasonal appeal, starting in early spring with a flush of fine, fern-like foliage that emerges with a striking purple-bronze tint. As the weather warms, the leaves transition to a deep, healthy green, providing a lush backdrop for the main event. In late spring, sturdy stems rise to a height of 18 to 24 inches, bearing clusters of intensely fragrant, grape-scented blue flowers with bright yellow centers. The combination of its refined texture and sweet perfume makes it an excellent choice for planting near walkways or patios where its scent can be fully appreciated.

For its ideal spot, 'Heaven Scent' should be planted in partial shade, as the delicate foliage can scorch in the full afternoon sun, while too much shade may reduce the intensity of its spring color. It flourishes in rich, loamy soil that is consistently moist but offers excellent drainage to prevent crown rot. Heaven Scent is notably more heat-tolerant than many other Jacob's Ladders, making it a reliable performer for the fluctuating spring and summer conditions in Ohio and surrounding areas. Maintenance is simple; deadheading the flower spikes once they fade will keep the plant looking tidy and may encourage a light rebloom later in the season.

Planting Tips

To help this plant settle in and thrive, we recommend these standard planting practices: Plant in well-draining soil with a slightly acidic pH. Water regularly, but avoid overwatering. Provide partial shade to full sun. Mulch around the base to retain moisture and suppress weeds. Fertilize lightly in the spring.
