Zone: 2BIG TUNA MUGO PINE
Pinus mugo Iseli® 'Big Tuna' is a robust and distinctive evergreen prized for its upright, broadly oval to pyramidal habit. Unlike many low-spreading mugo pines, Iseli® 'Big Tuna' grows as a dense, multi-stemmed small tree or large shrub, reaching a mature height of 10 feet and a spread of 6 feet. It is ideal for specimen planting, privacy screening, or as a formal hedge because it maintains a tidy, uniform shape naturally without the need for constant shearing. Its bold texture and dark green needles provide year-round structure, while its showy winter buds add a layer of seasonal interest, making it a "big fish" in the world of hardy garden conifers.
To keep Iseli® 'Big Tuna' thriving, plant it in full sun and well-drained soil. It is exceptionally hardy (down to Zone 2) and adaptable to various soil types, including rocky or poor soils, but it will not tolerate "wet feet" or standing water. While it is quite drought-tolerant once established, it requires regular deep watering during its first few growing seasons to develop its root system. It is also remarkably resistant to deer, road salt, and urban pollution, making it a resilient choice for both rural and inner-city landscapes
