Grower Notes:
Pinus densiflora 'Umbraculifera' is commonly referred to as the Japanese Red Pine or Tanyosho Pine. It is a slow-growing, dwarf, vase-shaped, multi-trunked tree with a flat-topped umbrella-like crown. It may reach 15 feet in 30 years. It features bright green needles and a plethora of small seed cones. Mature specimens have exfoliating bark in shades of red and brown.
The Japanese Red Pine is ideal for classic, formal gardens and Japanese gardens. It grows best in full sun and well-drained soils.
