JAPANESE LACEBARK PINE
Pinus bungeana is commonly referred to as the Lacebark Pine. This slow-growing conifer typically grows 30-50' tall in about the same number of years. It is noteworthy for its extremely showy exfoliating bark that peels like a sycamore to reveal a patchwork of white, olive and light purple and silver, maturing to a milky white. It takes about 10 years to start the exfoliating process. It has a spreading, multi-trunked habit, but can be trained as a single trunk tree. It has bundles of dark green needles and small, yellowish-brown cones.
The Lacebark Pine thrives in full sun with medium moisture and well-drained soils. It can be drought tolerant once established.
