Zone: 2DEJA BLUE BLUE SPRUCE
Picea pungens Deja Blue® is an outstanding dwarf Colorado blue spruce selection celebrated for its striking bright sky blue color and uniformly dense, broadly pyramidal form. Selected for its exceptionally vivid blue needles that retain their rich color throughout the seasons without dulling, Deja Blue® offers a refined, symmetrical habit that requires virtually no pruning to maintain its shape. It exhibits a slow to moderate growth rate, typically reaching around 6 to 8 feet tall and 4 to 5 feet wide over a ten-year period, making it an ideal anchor plant for smaller residential landscapes, rock gardens, or structured accent beds where a full-sized spruce would quickly overpower the space.
To thrive and maintain its intense blue foliage, Deja Blue® Blue Spruce demands a site in full sun, requiring at least six hours of direct sunlight daily to promote tight needle growth and vibrant color. Plant in well-drained, average to gritty soils, as it is highly sensitive to wet feet and saturated conditions; overwatering or poorly draining soil can quickly lead to root rot and needle drop. Once established, Deja Blue® Blue Spruce demonstrates excellent cold hardiness and strong drought tolerance, standing up well to winter winds and urban environments provided the soil drains freely.
