WHITE SPRUCE

Picea glauca is commonly referred to as the White Spruce or Canada Spruce. It is a very hardy evergreen conifer that features aromatic blue-green needles that have a glaucous waxy coating that castes a blueish white hue to the branches. Branches are dense when young, becoming more loose and open with age. They usually grow 2-4" per year.

The White Spruce enjoys full sun and moist, well-drained soils that are slightly acidic. Best performance comes with cold winters and cool summers.

Planting Tips

To help this plant settle in and thrive, we recommend these standard planting practices: Plant in well-draining soil with a slightly acidic pH. Water regularly, but avoid overwatering. Mulch around the base to retain moisture and suppress weeds. Prune in late winter or early spring to maintain shape and promote healthy growth.
