PICEA ABIES SKYHIGH WB NORWAY SPRUCE
Picea abies 'Skyhigh WB' is a captivating dwarf conifer that originated as a witch's broom selection discovered in Germany. It is ideal for rock gardens, small urban landscapes, or as a focal point in a conifer collection due to its exceptionally tight, globe-shaped growth habit. Skyhigh WB Norway Spruce is particularly noted for its ornamental bud display; numerous small, brown buds cluster at the branch tips, creating a striking texture against the rich green, finely textured needles. Growing at a slow rate of only about 3 inches per year, it maintains a tidy ball shape that reaches a mature size of roughly 2-3 feet in height and width, providing structure and year-round interest without ever outgrowing its space.
SkyHigh WB Norway Spruce should be planted in full sun and well-drained, slightly acidic soil. Like most Norway Spruce varieties, it is incredibly cold-hardy (down to Zone 3) but prefers climates with somewhat cool summers, as it can struggle in extreme southern heat. Care is relatively low-maintenance once the plant is established; however, because of its dwarf nature and shallow root system, it is important to provide consistent moisture and a layer of mulch to prevent the roots from drying out.
