DIABOLO NINEBARK

Deciduous, large, upright, spreading shrub with very dark purple foliage which stands out in the landscape. Foliage can turn green in high heat or partial shade. Profuse clusters of creamy white flowers in summer. Flowers give way to drooping clusters of reddish fruit (seed capsules). Plant in full sun for best color. Tolerates some drought in cool summers. Known for its exfoliating bark on mature branches which peels in strips to reveal its reddish-brown inner bark. The bark provides winter interest.

Planting Tips

To help this plant settle in and thrive, we recommend these standard planting practices: Plant in well-draining soil with full sun to partial shade (full sun brings out the best foliage color). Water regularly during the first growing season to establish roots. Mulch around the base to retain moisture. Prune immediately after the spring flowering period to maintain shape and encourage dense growth; avoid pruning in late winter or early spring, as this will remove the flower buds for the coming season.
