PHYSOCARPUS OPU DARKSTAR
Grower Notes:
Darkstar® Ninebark (Physocarpus opulifolius 'MINBLA3' PP33,455) is a standout deciduous shrub known for its dramatic, dark foliage and all-season interest. An improved, compact variety of the native ninebark, 'Darkstar' is a low-maintenance, versatile, and highly ornamental plant. It boasts dark, rich purple-black foliage that adds instant drama and contrast to any landscape. In late spring, it's covered in delicate clusters of white to pink flowers that pop against the deep leaves, followed by attractive red fruits that feed local birds.
Physocarpus Darkstar® is a tough, low-maintenance shrub. Its resilience makes it an excellent choice for both new and experienced gardeners. It enjoys full sun for the best color (at least 6 hours per day). It can tolerate partial shade, but the foliage color may be less intense. It enjoys a variety of soil conditions, including clay and rocky soils. However, it prefers well-drained, slightly acidic to neutral soil. Once established, it can be drought tolerant. It will not tolerate standing water.
This is a perfect selection for creating striking specimen plantings, dense hedges, or for adding bold color to mixed borders.
