PURPLE BEAUTY CREEPING PHLOX

Phlox subulata 'Purple Beauty' is a classic and highly reliable variety of creeping phlox, widely admired for its vigorous growth and exceptionally heavy spring bloom. 'Purple Beauty' creates a dense, low-growing carpet of needle-like, semi-evergreen foliage that becomes completely hidden under a sea of soft, star-shaped purple flowers in mid-to-late spring. Each blossom is accented by a distinct, dark violet-purple "eye" at the center, adding depth and visual interest to the overall display. Because it spreads reliably and forms a tight mat, it is one of the most effective groundcovers for suppressing weeds and providing a high-impact wash of color early in the gardening season.

The ideal spot for 'Purple Beauty' is a location with full sun and sharply drained soil; it particularly thrives in sandy or rocky areas where other perennials might struggle. While it is incredibly hardy and drought-tolerant once established, its care is greatly improved by a light shearing immediately after the flowering period ends. Trimming the stems back by about half encourages a fresh flush of lush green growth and prevents the center of the plant from becoming woody or sparse over time.
