Phlox subulata 'Drummonds Pink' is a premier selection of creeping phlox, widely considered one of the best pink-flowering cultivars due to its exceptionally large blooms and vigorous growth habit. It produces a dense, mossy carpet of needle-like evergreen foliage that becomes completely obscured by a sea of vibrant, deep pink flowers in mid-to-late spring. Each flower is notably larger than those of typical creeping phlox, featuring a small, darker pink eye at the center that intensifies its rich color. Its robust spreading habit makes it a top-tier choice for large-scale groundcover, stabilizing sunny embankments, or creating a high-impact floral border along walkways.
To ensure 'Drummonds Pink' reaches its full potential, it should be planted in a location that receives full sun, which is essential for achieving its signature blanket of spring flowers. It thrives in lean, gritty, and exceptionally well-drained soil; it actually prefers average soil over rich, organic ground, as too much fertilizer can lead to leggy growth rather than a tight mat.
