STARFIRE GARDEN PHLOX

Phlox paniculata 'Starfire' is widely considered one of the finest red garden phlox varieties ever introduced (1937 Moerheim Nursery, Netherlands), famous for its intense, glowing crimson-red color. The flower clusters are exceptionally vibrant, appearing almost neon against the plant's unique foliage, which emerges with a distinct bronze-to-burgundy tint before maturing to a deep, dark green. This combination of dark stems and fiery blooms creates a sophisticated, high-contrast look that stands out in any mid-summer border. Its sweet fragrance and nectar-rich flowers make it a magnet for hummingbirds and butterflies, adding movement and life to the landscape.

For 'Starfire' Phlox to thrive, it should be planted in a location that receives full sun, which helps preserve the dark bronze tones in the early foliage and ensures the most saturated flower color. It enjoys rich, organic soil that is kept consistently moist but well-drained, as it can be sensitive to drought and may lose its lower leaves if the soil dries out completely. Phlox 'Starfire' benefits greatly from excellent air circulation and should be watered at the base of the plant to minimize the risk of powdery mildew.
