LITTLE SPIRE RUSSIAN SAGE
Perovskia atriplicifolia 'Little Spire' is a beloved, mid-sized Russian Sage that bridges the gap between the tall, sprawling species and the ultra-dwarf modern hybrids. It is defined by its distinctively upright, architectural habit, featuring stiff silvery-white stems that refuse to flop even in poor soil or wind-swept locations. Starting in mid-summer, these structural stems are clothed in finely dissected, aromatic grey-green leaves and topped with long, airy spires of tubular lavender-blue flowers that persist until the first frost.
Reaching a mature height of 24 to 30 inches, 'Little Spire' is a "bulletproof" perennial for USDA zones 5-9 that excels in high-heat and drought-prone landscapes. It is exceptionally salt-tolerant and thrives in lean, fast-draining soil, making it a staple for xeriscapes, coastal gardens, or sunny mixed borders. Because the foliage and stems contain pungent oils, it is virtually deer and rabbit resistant, providing a reliable, low-maintenance wash of cooling color that serves as a high-activity hub for bees and butterflies all season long.
