DENIM N LACE RUSSIAN SAGE
Perovskia atriplicifolia 'Denim 'n Lace' is a celebrated dwarf Russian Sage, widely considered one of the best for its exceptionally strong, upright stems and "filled-in" floral appearance. Unlike older varieties that can look airy or sparse, 'Denim 'n Lace' produces dense spikes of bright amethyst-blue flowers packed closely together, creating a solid carpet of color from mid-summer through fall. Its lacy, silvery-green foliage is highly aromatic - emitting a pleasant herbal scent when brushed - and provides a cool, frosted texture that remains attractive even in the most intense summer heat.
Reaching a tidy height of 24 to 30 inches with a slightly narrower spread, 'Denim 'N Lace' is an architectural gem that refuses to flop, even in poor soil or wind-prone areas. It is a "bulletproof" perennial for USDA zones 4-9, boasting extreme drought, heat, and salt tolerance once established. Because of its woody stems and fragrant oils, it is virtually deer and rabbit resistant, making it a reliable, low-maintenance choice for sunny borders, xeriscapes, or mass plantings. For the best performance, plant it in "lean" soil with excellent drainage and give it a hard prune back to about 6 inches in early spring.
