Zone: 6CHA CHA™ PURPLE BEARDTONGUE
Penstemon Cha Cha™ Purple is a vibrant, high-energy perennial within the Cha Cha™ series, known for its rich, royal purple blooms that demand attention. These tubular, trumpet-shaped flowers feature a clean white throat, creating a striking contrast that is particularly attractive to hummingbirds and long-tongued bees. It is a prolific "marathon" bloomer, beginning its show in late spring and consistently producing new flower spikes until the first frost of autumn. The foliage is narrow, glossy, and dark green, forming a sturdy, upright mound that stays tidy throughout the growing season.
Reaching a height of 18 to 24 inches, Cha Cha™ Purple is an excellent mid-border plant that adds vertical interest without becoming floppy. Like other members of the Cha Cha™ series, it is remarkably heat and drought tolerant once established, making it a reliable choice for sunny, water-wise landscapes. It is hardy in USDA zones 6-9 and performs best in lean, well-drained soil; excessive fertilizer or "wet feet" in winter are its primary enemies. To keep the plant looking its best and to maximize the re-bloom, simply shear off spent flower spikes throughout the summer.
