CHA CHA™ CHERRY BEARDTONGUE
Penstemon Cha Cha™ Cherry is a standout perennial in the beardtongue family, celebrated for its exceptionally long blooming season and vibrant, maraschino-cherry red flowers. These tubular, trumpet-shaped blooms feature contrasting white-marked throats and are held on sturdy, upright stems that rise above a bushy mound of fine, blue-green foliage. Cha Cha™ Cherry is a tireless performer, beginning its show in late spring or early summer and continuing to "dance" through the garden right up until the first frost, making it a premier nectar source for hummingbirds, bees, and butterflies.
Growing at a height of 18 to 24 inches with a similar spread, Cha Cha™ Cherry is slightly taller and more structural than the 'Carillo' series, yet it maintains a tidy, "floppy-free" habit. It is highly adaptable and thrives in full sun and average-to-lean, well-drained soil; like most penstemons, it is remarkably drought-tolerant once established but will not tolerate "wet feet" during the winter. Hardy in USDA zones 6-9, it is also notably deer and rabbit resistant, making it an excellent low-maintenance choice for sunny borders, cottage gardens, or even large patio containers.
