KARL ROSENFIELD PEONY
Paeonia 'Karl Rosenfield' is a quintessential mid-season herbaceous peony that has remained a top-tier choice for gardeners since its introduction in 1908. It is celebrated for its large, double blooms in a brilliant, deep crimson-red that often develop a slight blue-magenta undertone as they mature. The flowers are incredibly dense and rose-shaped, frequently reaching 6 to 8 inches across, and are highly prized for their ability to hold their intense color without fading in the sun. Reaching a height of 30 to 36 inches, this variety is a "workhorse" of the garden, producing an abundance of blooms that make exceptional, long-lasting cut flowers.
To ensure 'Karl Rosenfield' thrives, it should be planted in full sun in rich, well-drained soil with a neutral pH. While 'Karl Rosenfield' is known for being vigorous and reliable, the sheer weight of its massive double flowers, especially when saturated with spring rain, usually requires the support of a sturdy peony hoop or cage. When planting, it is vital to position the "eyes" or buds no deeper than 1 to 2 inches below the soil surface to guarantee reliable flowering.
