ITOH JULIA ROSE TREE PEONY

Paeonia 'Julia Rose' is an extraordinary Itoh Hybrid renowned for its "chameleon-like" color transitions, offering a spectacular multi-tone display on a single plant. As the large, semi-double blooms open, they reveal a deep cherry-red to coral-pink hue that gradually softens into a warm apricot and finally matures to a delicate buttery yellow. These fragrant, cup-shaped flowers can reach 6 to 8 inches across and are dramatically accented by a center of golden stamens. Reaching a height of approximately 24 to 32 inches, it forms a lush, rounded mound of deeply divided, leathery green foliage that remains attractive and highly disease-resistant from spring until the first hard frost.

'Julia Rose' Peony is prized for its exceptional stem strength, easily holding its heavy, color-shifting blossoms upright without the need for staking, even during turbulent spring weather. To ensure 'Julia Rose' reaches its full vibrant potential, it should be planted in full sun to part shade in rich, well-drained soil; in warmer regions, some afternoon shade will help the delicate coral and apricot pigments last longer. Like other intersectional peonies, it is a vigorous grower that combines the exotic beauty of a tree peony with the cold hardiness of an herbaceous type. In late autumn, simply prune the stems back to about 4 to 6 inches above the ground to prepare the plant for its winter dormancy.
