ITOH FIRST ARRIVAL TREE PEONY
Paeonia 'First Arrival' is a premier Itoh Hybrid celebrated for being one of the earliest intersectional peonies to bloom, bridging the gap between tree peonies and herbaceous varieties. It produces magnificent, semi-double lavender-pink flowers that can reach a staggering 8 inches across, featuring delicate, crinkled petals that surround a heart of golden stamens and deep magenta flares. As the blooms mature, they gracefully fade to a soft shell-pink, often resulting in a beautiful multi-toned effect across the plant. Reaching about 2 to 3 feet in height, it forms a perfectly rounded, bushy mound of lush, deeply divided green foliage that remains attractive and disease-resistant throughout the entire growing season.
'First Arrival' is highly prized for its exceptional stem strength, easily supporting its massive blossoms without the need for staking or hoops, even during heavy spring rains. For the best performance, 'First Arrival' should be planted in full sun to part shade in rich, well-drained soil; in hotter climates, afternoon shade will help preserve the vibrant lavender-pink pigment. Like other Itoh hybrids, it is remarkably hardy and easy to care for, requiring only a simple pruning in late autumn. Once established, a single mature plant can produce dozens of fragrant blooms, making it a spectacular focal point in any perennial border or cutting garden.
