GAY PAREE PEONY
Paeonia 'Gay Paree' is a captivating anemone-form herbaceous peony that offers a unique, two-toned color palette and a whimsical garden presence. This mid-season bloomer features large, cup-shaped outer guard petals in a vibrant shade of cerise or deep raspberry-pink. At the center lies a dense, ruffled "puff" of creamy-white to pale yellow petaloids, creating a striking contrast that mimics the appearance of a colorful bowl filled with whipped cream. Reaching a height of approximately 24 inches, it produces a light, sweet fragrance and is supported by a lush mound of divided, dark green foliage that remains an attractive garden staple throughout the summer.
To ensure 'Gay Paree' thrives and maintains its distinct bi-color contrast, it should be planted in a location that receives full sun, as at least six to eight hours of direct light are required for the best flower production. It performs best in deep, fertile, and well-drained soil with a neutral pH; like most peonies, it is sensitive to "wet feet" and requires excellent drainage to prevent root rot. When planting, it is crucial to position the "eyes" or buds no deeper than 1 to 2 inches below the soil surface to guarantee reliable flowering in subsequent years.
