BLACKGUM
Also known as Sour Gum, this native deciduous hardwood tree is very adaptable to poor soils and an urban landscape. It is noteworthy for its eye-popping fall display of spectacular yellow, orange, purple and red hues. The Black Gum makes a great street tree. Although it prefers moist soils, it has been known to tolerate droughts, which may be attributed to its genetic ability to grow a deep root system.
