CATS MEOW CATMINT
Nepeta faassenii 'Cat's Meow' is a refined selection of Catmint that offers the classic beauty of larger varieties but with a significantly more disciplined, mounded habit. Reaching a height of 18 to 24 inches and spreading up to 30 inches wide, it is specifically bred to maintain its dense, rounded shape without "flopping" or splitting open in the center as the season progresses. Throughout the summer, it is smothered in spikes of sky-blue flowers with dark purple calyxes that remain attractive even after the petals fall. Its small, fragrant, gray-green leaves are highly resistant to deer and rabbits, making it a reliable "workhorse" perennial for adding soft texture and continuous color to sunny landscapes.
To see 'Cat's Meow' at its best, choose an ideal spot in full sun with well-drained soil, as it performs poorly in heavy, waterlogged clay. It is exceptionally drought-tolerant once established and actually thrives in leaner, average soils; avoid over-fertilizing, which can cause the plant to grow too quickly and lose its tidy form. Its care is remarkably low-maintenance, requiring only a light shearing after the first major flush of blooms to encourage a fresh crop of foliage and a secondary wave of flowers in late summer. Because it is a sterile hybrid, it won't aggressively reseed throughout your garden, allowing it to stay exactly where you planted it as a clean, colorful border or mass planting.
