Upscale™ 'Red Velvet' Monarda hybrid PPAF is commonly known as Red Velvet Bee Balm. This Proven Winners® selection is part of the Upscale™ series of Monarda that feature excellent mildew resistance and are taller than most other varieties. Red Velvet is the tallest in the collection and has bright cherry red flowers with emerging foliage showing a bronze cast. Its well-branched stems support a second flush of fragrant flowers extending the length of bloom time. Bees, butterflies and other beneficial pollinators are drawn to this plant!
Red Velvet Monarda is easy to grow and deer resistant. It thrives in full to part sun in rich, fertile, evenly moist, well-drained soils.

To help this plant settle in and thrive, we recommend these standard planting practices: Plant in moist, rich soil with partial shade. Water regularly, but avoid overwatering. Mulch around the base to retain moisture and suppress weeds. Fertilize lightly in the spring with a balanced fertilizer.
