JACOB CLINE BEE BALM

Monarda 'Jacob Cline' is a powerhouse of the perennial garden, renowned for having some of the largest, most intensely red flowers of any Bee Balm. Reaching a stately height of 24-30 inches, it creates a dramatic, fiery vertical accent that is visible from across the yard. The shaggy, tubular blossoms are held by dark, reddish-purple bracts, adding a sophisticated depth to the vibrant scarlet display from mid-to-late summer. Beyond its architectural beauty, its large, square-stemmed foliage emits a delightful spicy-mint fragrance that is a favorite for herbal teas, yet it remains highly resistant to deer and rabbits while acting as the ultimate magnet for hummingbirds.

The ideal spot for 'Jacob Cline' is a location in full sun with rich, organic soil that is consistently moist but well-draining. It is legendary for being one of the most naturally mildew-resistant red Monardas available, though it still thrives best in an open area with excellent air circulation to keep its large leaves healthy and green. Because it is a vigorous grower, it needs plenty of room to spread and should be divided every three to four years to maintain its health and prevent the center of the clump from becoming hollow. To ensure a spectacular show, provide extra water during dry summer spells and deadhead the primary flower spikes to encourage a potential secondary bloom.
