Zone: 4SCARLET BEE BALM
Monarda 'Gardenview Scarlet' is a classic, high-performance Bee Balm famous for its large, intensely vibrant red blossoms that resemble exploding fireworks. Growing to a substantial height of 30-36 inches, it serves as a dramatic vertical accent in the middle or back of a perennial border. The shaggy flowers sit atop sturdy, square stems and are held by attractive, reddish-tinted bracts that add depth to the fiery display. Beyond its visual impact, the foliage is highly aromatic, releasing a spicy, tea-like scent that is beloved by gardeners but generally avoided by deer and rabbits, making it a reliable choice for pollinator-heavy landscapes.
The ideal spot for 'Gardenview Scarlet' is a location in full sun with rich, organic soil that is consistently moist but well-draining. While many older red Monardas are notorious for powdery mildew, this variety was selected for its superior disease resistance, though it still performs best with plenty of space to ensure excellent air circulation. To maintain its vigor, ensure the plant does not suffer from drought stress during mid-summer heat, as dry roots can lead to leaf drop and a ragged appearance.
