BEE-YOU™ BEE-MERRY® BEE BALM
Monarda Bee Merry® is from the Walters Gardens' BEE-YOU™ series and is a vibrant, mid-sized Bee Balm that strikes a perfect balance between dwarf and traditional varieties, typically reaching a height of about 9 to 12 inches. It is celebrated for its abundant, shaggy clusters of pink flowers that sit atop sturdy, upright stems. The foliage is a deep, healthy green and emits a spicy, citrus-like fragrance that acts as a natural deterrent for deer and rabbits while serving as an irresistible landing pad for hummingbirds, bees, and butterflies. Its uniform, mounding habit and intense flower color make it a fantastic choice for adding a pop of mid-border interest or for filling out large mixed containers with long-lasting summer color.
The ideal spot for Bee Merry® is a sunny location that receives at least six hours of direct sunlight, which ensures the most prolific blooming and the strongest, most upright stems. It performs best in rich, organic soil that is consistently moist but well-draining; like its relatives, it is sensitive to drought and may drop its lower leaves if the soil dries out completely during a heatwave. Bee Merry® was specifically bred for high resistance to powdery mildew, but providing adequate spacing for good air circulation will further ensure the foliage stays clean and green.
