BEE-YOU™ BEE-HAPPY® BEE BALM

Monarda Bee Happy® is part of the Bee-You™ series and is a standout cultivar of Bee Balm known for its intensely saturated, vermillion-red to deep pink flowers that sit atop sturdy, upright stems. Unlike many taller, floppier traditional varieties, Bee Happy® maintains a tidy and manageable height of about 15 to 18 inches, making it a perfect "middle-of-the-border" architectural piece. Its foliage is notably dark green and possesses the signature spicy, citrus-mint fragrance of the genus, which helps deter deer and rabbits while acting as an irresistible beacon for hummingbirds and long-tongued bees. The shaggy, crown-like blossoms provide a dramatic texture that contrasts beautifully against softer, more rounded garden neighbors.

The ideal spot for Bee Happy® is a sunny location that receives at least six hours of direct sunlight, which ensures the most vibrant flower color and the strongest stems. It prefers rich, organic soil that is consistently moist but well-draining; like most Monardas, it will quickly show signs of stress or dropped leaves if the roots are allowed to dry out during a heatwave. Bee Happy® was specifically selected for its high resistance to powdery mildew, but it still thrives best with adequate spacing to allow for good air circulation. To keep the plant looking its best, deadhead the spent flower heads to encourage a secondary bloom in late summer and cut the stems back to the ground in late autumn or early spring.
