Zone: 5BRACKENS BROWN BEAUTY MAGNOLIA
The Bracken's Brown Beauty Southern Magnolia is a reliable, winter hardy, evergreen magnolia that exhibits a better tolerance to cold than other varieties. It is a dense, compact cultivar with a straight trunk that can grow 30 feet tall with a narrow, pyramidal crown. Its foliage is a leathery, dark green with an underside of cinnamon brown giving a nice bi-color appearance.
Fragrant, saucer-shaped, white flowers are 4-6" in diameter and appear in late spring and sporadically throughout summer. Cone-like fruit clusters follow flowers and mature in late summer with red coated seed cones. It thrives in full sun in rich, moist, well-drained soils.
