Zone: 5LITTLE GIRL® ANN MAGNOLIA
Magnolia Ann is a slow-growing, hybrid cross between Magnolia liliiflora 'Nigra' and Magnolia stellata 'Rosea'. It is part of the LITTLE GIRL® series of hybrid Magnolias that were developed by the National Arboretum in the mid 1950s.
Ann Magnolia has lightly fragrant, reddish purple blooms outside and white inside that appear before its spring leaves. This series blooms about 2-4 weeks later than Magnolia stellata and Magnolia soulangeana so they usually escape potential damage from early spring frost. Flowers may sporadically repeat bloom in mid summer. It enjoys full sun to part shade in evenly moist, well-drained soil.
