CREEPING JENNY
Lysimachia nummularia, commonly known as Creeping Jenny, is a vigorous, low-growing perennial prized for its ability to create a lush, verdant carpet in a variety of landscape applications. It features delicate, rounded leaves that resemble small coins, giving rise to its other common name, Moneywort. In early summer, it produces small, cup-shaped yellow flowers that nestle among the leaves, though the primary ornamental value remains its dense, trailing habit that spills elegantly over retaining walls and container edges.
To achieve optimal growth, Creeping Jenny thrives in moist, well-drained soil and is one of the few groundcovers that can tolerate consistently damp conditions, making it an excellent choice for the margins of ponds or bog gardens. Its ideal spot is one that receives partial shade to full sun; while it can handle deeper shade, the golden varieties require more sunlight to maintain their vibrant color. However, in scorching climates, some afternoon shade is beneficial to prevent leaf scorch.
