STARSHIP™ SCARLET CARDINAL FLOWER

The Lobelia speciosa Starship™ Scarlet is a vibrant hybrid perennial, celebrated for its brilliant, true scarlet-red, tubular flowers that are a favorite of hummingbirds. It has an upright, columnar habit, growing to an average height of 18-24 inches and a narrow spread of 6-12 inches. It is an improved variety known for its earlier bloom time, excellent basal branching, and first-year flowering, providing a dense, continuous display of color from mid-summer into early fall. The dramatic, bright red flowers are beautifully set against dark green foliage, which often emerges with attractive coppery-bronze or burgundy tips.

Starship™ Scarlet performs best in full sun to part shade and is most successful when planted in rich, fertile, and consistently moist to wet soil (hardy in zones 6-10). While it is highly tolerant of wet conditions, making it perfect for bog gardens, rain gardens, or watersides, it requires constant moisture even in well-drained borders. In hot summer regions, providing afternoon shade is beneficial to help prevent the soil from drying out. Starship™ Scarlet is low maintenance, deer and rabbit resistant, and benefits from a light layer of mulch in colder zones to protect the root crown over winter.
