WORPLESDON SWEETGUM
Liquidambar styraciflua 'Worplesdon' is commonly known as Worplesdon Sweetgum. It is an elegant and award-winning Sweet Gum with a straight trunk and a more broad, conical crown as it matures. Its green leaves are long, narrow and deeply lobed unlike the maple-like leaves of other Sweet Gums. In fall they turn bright shades of yellow, orange and red. Seed pods form in clusters and are hard, bristly balls which remain on the tree through winter. Added to this is its corky bark which provides additional winter interest.
The Worplesdon Sweetgum enjoys full sun and deep, moist, acidic, well-drained soils. It is a low maintenance tree that is deer and rabbit resistant.
