Zone: 4SUMMER SUN® LA HYBRID LILY
Lilium LA Summer Sun® is a cheerful, dwarf LA Hybrid lily, prized for its large, upward-facing, vibrant clear yellow flowers that bring a sunny burst of color to the summer garden. It is a cross between the Lilium longiflorum (Easter Lily) and an Asiatic lily, giving it the large, often funnel-shaped blooms of the former and the sturdy, easy-to-grow nature of the latter, along with a pleasant, subtle fragrance. Growing to a compact height of approximately 12 to 18 inches on naturally strong stems, Summer Sun® is an ideal choice for container gardening, edging garden beds, or adding spectacular color to a cut flower arrangement.
For successful growth, plant the Summer Sun® Lily in full sun to partial sun - ideally a location where the leaves get plenty of light, but the roots remain cool (mulching helps with this). It requires a fertile, humus-rich, and, most importantly, very well-drained soil, as the bulb will rot if the soil retains too much moisture, especially during its dormant period. Keep the soil evenly moist during the growing and blooming season and fertilize lightly with a balanced feed in the spring as the shoots emerge. After the plant finishes blooming, remember to deadhead the spent flowers to prevent seed production, but do not remove the main stem or foliage until it has naturally yellowed and died back, as the leaves are essential for gathering energy for the bulb's spectacular return the following summer.
