SUMMER SNOW® LA HYBRID LILY

The Lilium LA Summer Snow® is an exceptionally pure and elegant LA Hybrid lily, born from the crossing of Longiflorum and Asiatic lilies, prized for its classic white coloration and reliable performance. True to its name, this variety produces large, showy, upward-facing trumpet-shaped flowers of a dazzling, clear snow-white that provides a brilliant, cool contrast in the mid-summer garden. Reaching a compact height of around 18 to 24 inches, Summer Snow® is a naturally sturdy, genetically dwarf cultivar that stands well without staking, making it an excellent candidate for the front of borders, mass plantings, or elegant container displays. Furthermore, it possesses the desirable trait of being slightly fragrant and features thicker, weather-resistant petals inherited from its parentage.

Summer Snow® lily thrives in full sun to partial sun - it appreciates sun on its leaves but prefers its roots to remain cool. Success depends heavily on a moist, yet absolutely well-drained soil that is rich in organic matter. Following its impressive bloom, snip off the faded flowers (deadheading), but do not cut down the green foliage; the leaves must be allowed to photosynthesize and turn yellow naturally to store energy for the bulb, guaranteeing another stunning display of white next summer.

Lily Types:

Asiatic Lily
Asiatic Lilies are native to several areas of Asia. They are easy to care for and the earliest to bloom in the Lily family. Asiatics are fragrance free and come in so many vibrant colors - some even have double blooms! They thrive in all types of soil as long as it is well-drained (add some sand for drainage). These lilies multiply quickly and their bulbs can double every season.

LA Hybrid Lily
L.A. Hybrid Lilies were introduce back in 1992 and are a cross between longiflorum lilies (Easter Lily) and Asiatic hybrids. They get their trumpet shape and longer vase life from the longiflorum, and their warmer flower colors and upward-facing habit from the Asiatic. They have strong, sturdy stems for cutting and are perfect in containers, beds and borders.

Oriental Lily
Oriental Lilies are native to Japan. They are late bloomers - blooming when Asiatic lilies start to fade. They grow considerably taller than Asiatics and are perfect for cut flowers due to their thick, strong stems and heavily fragrance. Yes - they are very fragrant! Their leaves are wider and grows more heart-shaped and their flowers are star-shaped. Their bulbs multiply slower than Asiatic lilies and thrive in well-drained, organic soil.
