ROYAL SUNSET® LA HYBRID LILY

The Lilium LA Royal Sunset® is a magnificent LA Hybrid lily (a cross between a Longiflorum and an Asiatic lily) known for its large, brightly colored, and mildly fragrant flowers that evoke the colors of a setting sun. The petals feature a vibrant blend of burnt orange or deep apricot at the base, warming to golden yellow in the center, and capped with rose-pink tips. This striking combination makes it a superb choice for adding dramatic vertical interest to your garden, often reaching a height of 3 to 4 feet. It is an excellent cut flower, boasting the durability of Asiatic lilies combined with the larger bloom size and subtle fragrance of the Longiflorum parent. It is a fast grower and relatively low-maintenance.

Royal Sunset® thrives in full sun to partial shade. Crucially, the soil must be moist yet extremely well-drained to prevent the bulb from rotting; avoid any areas where water stands. While the plant's top enjoys the sun, it prefers its roots to be cool, so applying a layer of mulch is beneficial. Provide consistent water during the spring and summer growing season. After the impressive mid-summer bloom, snip off the spent flowers to deadhead the plant, but do not cut the stem or foliage until it naturally turns yellow and dies back in the fall. This essential process allows the plant to store energy for a strong return of flowers the following year.

Asiatic Lily
Asiatic Lilies are native to several areas of Asia. They are easy to care for and the earliest to bloom in the Lily family. Asiatics are fragrance free and come in so many vibrant colors - some even have double blooms! They thrive in all types of soil as long as it is well-drained (add some sand for drainage). These lilies multiply quickly and their bulbs can double every season.

LA Hybrid Lily
L.A. Hybrid Lilies were introduce back in 1992 and are a cross between longiflorum lilies (Easter Lily) and Asiatic hybrids. They get their trumpet shape and longer vase life from the longiflorum, and their warmer flower colors and upward-facing habit from the Asiatic. They have strong, sturdy stems for cutting and are perfect in containers, beds and borders.

Oriental Lily
Oriental Lilies are native to Japan. They are late bloomers - blooming when Asiatic lilies start to fade. They grow considerably taller than Asiatics and are perfect for cut flowers due to their thick, strong stems and heavily fragrance. Yes - they are very fragrant! Their leaves are wider and grows more heart-shaped and their flowers are star-shaped. Their bulbs multiply slower than Asiatic lilies and thrive in well-drained, organic soil.
