ORCHID FROST DEADNETTLE

Lamium maculatum 'Orchid Frost' is commonly known as Orchid Frost Deadnettle. It is a high-performing perennial groundcover celebrated for its stunning, silver-frosted foliage that brightens shady garden spaces. Its striking leaves feature shimmering silvery-white centers bordered by scalloped, blue-green margins, creating an eye-catching contrast that persists throughout the growing season. It has a low-growing habit that forms a dense, mat-like carpet, typically reaching only 3–6 inches in height while spreading vigorously to 15-18 inches wide, effectively suppressing weeds. In late spring to early summer, 'Orchid Frost' produces masses of small, hooded flowers in a distinctive orchid-pink to deep purple shade, offering a vibrant counterpoint to the frosty leaves, and it is known to rebloom sporadically into the fall.

'Orchid Frost' is deer and rabbit resistant and thrives in partial to full shade and prefers evenly moist, well-drained soil, though it tolerates dry shade well once established. Unlike some older varieties, it boasts improved resistance to common foliage diseases, making it a reliable choice for gardeners in USDA Zones 3–8. Its spreading, rooting habit makes it excellent for mass planting under trees and shrubs, along borders, or as a striking "spiller" in containers.
